How does it work?

The first pillar of the Wim Hof Method is breathing. We’re always breathing, yet we’re mostly unaware of its tremendous potential. Heightened oxygen levels hold a treasure trove of benefits, and the specialized breathing technique of the Wim Hof Method unearths them all: more energy, reduced stress levels, and an augmented immune response that swiftly deals with pathogens.

The third pillar of the Wim Hof Method is the foundation of the other two: both cold exposure and conscious breathing require patience and dedication in order to be fully mastered. Armed with focus and determination you are ready to explore and eventually master your own body and mind.

The cold is your warm friend and one of the three pillars of the Wim Hof Method. Proper exposure to the cold starts a cascade of health benefits, including the buildup of brown adipose tissue and resultant fat loss, reduced inflammation that facilitates a fortified immune system, balanced hormone levels, improved sleep quality, and the production of endorphins— the feel-good chemicals in the brain that naturally elevate your mood.

It was 2019 and I was on the brink of burnout. I was running three businesses, working seven days a week and struggling to sleep. Outwardly I looked 'successful' but on the inside it felt anything but that. I was stressed, overwhelmed and never felt able to switch 'off'. It didn't feel good and I knew something had to change. 

Come 2020 and the COVID lockdown hit the UK. It was a challenge for me as the lockdown forced me to get out of my comfort zone of being busy and actually stop and think. Living near the sea, I used my daily allowance of exercise to walk to the beach and get into the cold water. After the initial shock had worn off, I felt AMAZING!

But I didn't know why. How on earth could getting into cold water for just a few minutes make me feel so good?! So I started to research. But on top of that, I noticed through being in cold water, I had finally found a way to become present and just 'be' - as someone who had tried so many times to meditate, I was finally able to focus, to stop and to break the powerful cycle of 'doing'. 

I was introduced to the Wim Hof Breathing technique by a friend and combined my background as a performance psychologist, I noticed I was covering the three pillars of the Wim Hof Method without really realising it. 

Roll on 2021 and I had the opportunity to attend a Wim Hof Method Fundamentals workshop. It was a fantastic introduction to understanding the science behind why the cold makes us feel so good and how we can reconnect our mind with our body. Despite being super nervous about the ice bath I stepped up and did it. Two minutes later, out of the ice I felt incredible. The workshop showed 

My Story

me I can push myself further than I previously thought and gave me a proper introduction to the Wim Hof Method as a a powerful tool to feel happier and healthier. I was hooked!

Having practised the method myself for two years, 2022 gave me the opportunity to head out to Poland to train with Wim and a fantastic group of instructors. It was an incredible experience and I'm so proud to now be a Wim Hof Method Instructor. I can't wait to share the method with you soon in an upcoming workshop.
